Babcock and the CCC - 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Babcock State Park’s park office, Clifftop, WV. 1.5 mile walk. Step back to the days of the Civilian Conservation Corps on this walking tour. Learn about the creation of Babcock State Park during this national program.
Under the Hills Presented by Fred Powers - 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Tamarack’s auditorium, Beckley. Let stories of coal’s boom days bring to light the life of the underground coal miner and challenges faced in Appalachia.
To kick off Hidden History Weekend, the photographs from the photography contest will be on display at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center in Lansing; the Sandstone Visitor Center in Sandstone; the Thurmond Visitor Center in Thurmond; and the Coal Heritage Trail Interpretive Center at the Bramwell Train Depot in Bramwell. The photographs will be exhibited September 27th – October 30th. Please note that the photos displayed at Thurmond Depot during Hidden History Weekend will be moved to the New River Gorge National Park Headquarters in Glen Jean for October. The 1st place photographs in each category will be displayed at Tamarack in the vestibule directly across from the David L. Dickirson Fine Art Gallery beginning September 30th and through the month of October. Visit any of these locations to view images of coal and railroad history, state park landmarks, churches, towns and more.

This event will take place September 27 - 29 at New River Gorge National River, the National Coal Heritage Area, Tamarack, and Babcock, Carnifex Ferry Battlefield, Hawks Nest, Little Beaver, and Pipestem Resort State Parks.
Fees/Admission
All programs are FREE unless otherwise noted. Wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes for all guided hikes. Water, snacks, and camera are other useful tools to bring along.
