SUMMARY:Winter Sports Demo
DESCRIPTION:The Get Active in the Park program brings the New River Gorge community free instructional events as sample activities at a beginner level. The goal is to get more people comfortable and confident exploring the parks around them and to begin a lifestyle of more physical activity.\n\n\n\nMeet at the Grandview Visitor Center.\n\nThis event will provide equipment review\, technique\, and information on where to explore in the parks of southern West Virginia.\n\n\n\nA few things to consider:\n\nDress in MANY layers including hats and gloves. It will be cold and overcast. These activities get your warmed up quickly and you will want to take layers off and on. Event will begin at noon. Please arrive no later than 3:30pm to have time on the equipment.\n\n\n\nThis is the equipment list: \n\n	10 pairs of adult skis ranging in boot size from women's 6-9\, men's 8-13. 10 pairs of youth skis ranging in boot size from kids 11-6.\n	15 pairs of adult snow shoes sizes small\, medium\, large.\n	5 pair of youth snow shoes sizes small\, medium\, large.\n	Sledding is hard to gage at this point\, but a possibility.\n\n\n\nVolunteers will be set up in stations to explain equipment and help with sizing. Each participant will have around 10 minutes of instruction with 20-30 minutes to try out the gear (depending on demand). Participants can then take a break\, warm by the bonfire\, enjoy some hot chocolate\, and return to the equipment if it is not being used. There are bathrooms available and a pavilion.\n\n\n\nEach participant will be asked to fill out a waiver before participating and a survey afterwards. This helps measure the program to aid in resources for more activities.\n\n\n\n**This event is snow based with final event details being made 5 days prior. Please check this page for updates.
