DESCRIPTION:Join in on the celebration this weekend with National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day! Getting out in the park is something for kids of all ages\, so go on an outdoor adventure this weekend. Explore the nature and history of the area on a ranger program. All ranger programs are FREE unless otherwise noted. Wear comfortable walking shoes for guided walks. Water\, snacks\, camera\, and binoculars are other useful tools to bring along.  Here is the schedule for this weekend's ranger programs in area National Park Service sites.   \n\n \n\nSaturday\, October 3\, 2015:\n\nNational Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day\n\n10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Contact Scott McDaniel at 336-314-7171 to sign up. Meet at the Arrowhead Trails parking area off Kaymoor No. 1 Road near Fayetteville between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. 1 to 3-plus miles bike ride.  People of all ages are welcome to get out and enjoy the park on two wheels. Learn to mountain bike as you ride with others from the local community. Bring your own mountain bike or some bikes will be available for use. This special celebration is sponsored by the New River Bicycle Union and the National Park Service.\n\n \n\nBluestone Walk\n\n10:00 am - 11:30 am. Meet at the base of Pipestem Resort State Park tramway. 2 mile walk.  Walk within Bluestone National Scenic River for a mile and return. Along the way\, enjoy the flora and fauna of the area and discover regional history. Bring $2.25 for the return tram ride.\n\n \n\nHistoric Thurmond Tour\n\n11:00 am - 12:00 pm. Meet at the Thurmond Depot Visitor. 0.5 mile walk. What was life like in one of the New River Gorge's most renowned towns? Meet a ranger in Thurmond's historic district for an informal tour of this once bustling railroad town\, hearing stories of days gone by.\n\n \n\nSunday\, October 4\, 2015:\n\nHistoric Thurmond Tour\n\n11:00 am - 12:00 pm.
